Biography

ALAIN BELANGER, CabinetMaker

Alain BélangerBorn into a family of French-Canadian cabinetmakers, Alain has followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, a cabinetmaker whose contracts included the windows and trim work for the Canadian National Railroad stations as they were built across Eastern Canada, and his father, a carpenter who had a thriving shop in Drummondville.

Alain studied cabinetmaking at La Poudriere College and then received hands-on education from some of the “old men,” as he calls them. They, the best cabinetmakers of their generation, showed him the “tricks and techniques” of the French-Canadian style.

He has worked in shops in Montreal and Quebec City, where he did everything from a staircase for one of Quebec’s premier companies (over $150,000 when built in 1996) to period restorations in historic old town Quebec City.

Several years in New York City gave him the opportunity to create displays in museums and art galleries, while also working in the homes of “the rich and famous.”

Back in Quebec, Alain started his own business using all the skills and expertise gained from his vast and unique experiences.

A twist of fate and our good luck brought Alain to the Grey-Bruce area to create and install displays for the new Grey Roots Museum near Owen Sound. In June 2007, he moved to Southampton, Ontario where he established Miracle of Silence - Alain Bélanger, CabinetMaker.

A list on the board beside the door to his showroom reads:

But the list only begins to suggest the possibilities when he works with you!
